Fields Trip

Dear PHYF125 Students,

Through this semester, we will be deliberating on topics related to electric and magnetic phenomena in terms of the fields of electric charges and currents. Among others, we will discover that the force between two electric charges is due to the interaction between either one of the charges and the field of the other. It is therefore essential that all of us are equipped with a thorough understanding of the methematical methods required to deal with fields. The concept of field and the mathematics of vectors are essential for us to study Physics in great depth.

Mathematically speaking, a field is a function that describes a physical quantity at all points in space. In scalar fields, this physical quantity is completely specified by the magnitude for each point. Temperature and electric potential are examples of scalar quantities that can vary from one point to another in space. As for the vector fields, both the number or magnitude and the direction are required. Gravitational force and electric field are example of such vector quantities. Furthermore, the usual custom right-hand Cartesian coordinates system will be used from time to time.

Enjoy your Physics!

The Statistics

Dear PPC students.

I'm showing the statistics of your performance in the PHYF115 subject for last trimester. Congratulations to those who did well but to the rests, it is not the end of the world. There is still time to make ammend on the past mistakes and I wish everyone all the best. Have fun in Physics!

Nasri set for first Arsenal start of the season

France midfielder Samir Nasri could be set to return to first-team action for Arsenal when they take on Liverpool in the Carling Cup on Wednesday night.

Nasri suffered a broken leg during pre-season training in July but made his comeback for the reserves last Tuesday. And, having been named among the substitutes for the 2-2 draw against West Ham United on Sunday, he is now in line to make his first appearance of the season.

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski could also make his first appearance of the season as he looks to fight for his place after recovering from a knee injury.

"It has been a frustrating time for me because of the injury but it's gone now and I need to look forward to the future," Fabianski said. "I want to get back into the team, fighting for my place really hard.

"I want to show my quality and, hopefully, win a trophy with Arsenal. I can think about this now that I am completely fit, which is the main thing. I want it to stay that way."

Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre are expected to be involved alongside a number of youngsters such as Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Carlos Vela and Fran Merida.

The Reality

Hi everyone,

I guess that everyone of you are having a real break from books, assignments, quizzes, tests etc. There is only one more week to go and I think everything will be back to "normal" once the class starts next week. Your last trimester results will be out by this week and you must expect the unexpected things to happen, but please remains composed and stay calm.

As far as Physics result is concerned, sadly to say your performance was not what I'm expecting or wished. Only 13 of you (out of 44 students) obtained A and A-. In fact only 6 of you achieved A, which is merely 14%. To make matter worst, one of you got a C-, which is totally unacceptable considering that majority of you were top performer students during your SPM. Well, it is quite difficult to pinpoint the reasons for the poor performance, but maybe some of you have difficulty to understand the materials due to poor command of English. This is just my wild guess. On the bright side, one of you managed to get 98% in the overall score and this has made me very proud. Well, I will give more comments on this matter once I have received the results from other students and for different subjects.

So long for now.

Happy Holidays & Deepavali Celebrations

Hi there,

The final examination is approaching the final day. I believed that everyone of you have tried your best and hopefully your results consummate with your efforts and hardwork. Then comes the holidays and celebrations, please don't overjoyed and be moderate in whatever activities that you are doing. If you are driving, please drive safely and give due consideration to the others.

The Trimester 2 2009/2010 will resume on the 2nd. November 2009 and I hope everyone is fresh and motivated by that time. Happy holidays and have fun!

All the Best

Dear All.

First and foremost, I would like to thank those who have given comments and opinions in my blog. Surely all of you are my source of inspiration and motivation, and I really appreciate your kind words and positive comments.

Next week is the final exam week. I hope all of you have made the necessary preparation and at this point of time, please study smart. At this final push sometimes study hard is a disaster and I guess study smart is the best option. Please take care of your health, have enough sleep and take proper lunch and dinner.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone of you all the best in the final exam. I really enjoy teaching you guys and your responses and feedbacks during our classes were just tremendous. I hope one day I'll be able to teach you again in different subjects. I would also like to apologize for any of my actions and words that may hurt your feeling or offended you.

Good luck and see all of you again, Insya Allah.
